Your Albuquerque Thunderbirds Kick-off the 2008-2009 Season with a Strong Roster

Albuquerque, NM – Nov. 28, 2008 – The Albuquerque Thunderbirds (Tbirds) begin the 2008-09 NBA Development League season tonight when the team hosts the Colorado 14ers at 7:00 pm at Tingley Coliseum at EXPO NM.

The Tbirds opening day roster features a group of players and is highlighted by David Noel, formerly of the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks and Will Conroy, who has NBA experience with the Memphis Grizzlies and the Los Angeles Clippers.

“We’re excited to begin our fourth season and hope that the fans in Albuquerque will continue to support our team as they battle for the D-League Championship,” says Sam Bregman, local owner of the Thunderbirds. The Thunderbirds won the 2006 NBA D-League Championship.

New head coach John Coffino is excited to begin the season. “The guys have really bonded in the time they’ve been practicing in Albuquerque. I look forward to seeing them play the 14ers and know the fans will see the strength of our team,” he said.

For the season opener the Tbirds are partnering with Asthma Allies. Kids from the Asthma Allies will line the highfive/fan tunnel and greet the players as they enter the arena. The mission of Asthma Allies is to improve the quality of life for individuals affected with asthma by raising awareness; providing evidence-based education to individuals, families, schools, and healthcare professionals; addressing disparity and access issues; and encouraging comprehensive asthma self-management through a team approach.

Tickets start at $5 and are available at the box office on game nights. For more information about the season opener call the Tbirds office at 505.265.DUNK (3865) or visit them online at www.abqtbirds.com.
