BISMARCK, N.D., October 30, 2008 – The NBA Development League Central Division Champion Dakota Wizards announced today that their NBA Development League draft headquarters will be at Stadium Sports Bar (1247 W Divide Ave) on Friday November 7th 2008. The D-League Draft begins at 6:00 p.m. CT, but drink specials start at 4 p.m. Sponsors, season tickets holders, and Wizards fans are invited to join the Wizards coaches and front office staff at Stadium Sports Bar as Head Coach Duane Ticknor and staff select the Dakota Wizards roster.
“I’m really looking forward to the draft” said Wizards head coach Duane Ticknor “This is why we coach, there is a lot of planning that goes into the season and it’s nice to finally get started forming the team”.
The Wizards pick eleventh in their third ever D-League draft, which will consist of 10 rounds and be conducted via teleconference from D-League headquarters located at the NBA TV studio’s in Atlanta. If Wizards fans cannot make it to the draft party, the draft will be covered live via NBA TV with coverage beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a pre-draft show. The selection process will operate with each team having one pick in each of the 10 rounds. Teams will have up to two minutes to make a selection in each round. No trades will be permitted during the draft and only players signed to a NBA Development League Standard Player Contract are eligible to be selected.
The Tulsa 66ers secured the first overall selection through a lottery conducted at the annual coaches meeting that was held in Dallas in October. The Dakota Wizards will have the eleventh overall pick. Since the draft is serpentine, or “snaked”, the order will be reversed in each of the 10 rounds. For example, after picking eleventh, Wizards next selection will be 22nd overall.
