NBA.com Rookie Ladder

The Rookie Ladder is a free-flowing, constantly updated chart that ranks the 2010-11 rookies. If a rookie plays well, he climbs the ladder. Play poorly, and he'll slide down a rung ... or two or three. The rankings are updated by NBA.com's Drew Packham, who also compiles the weekly T-Mobile Rookie Rankings.

Day 10 from Las Vegas: Final thoughts

John Wall was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Las Vegas Summer League and DeMarcus Cousins was named T-Mobile Rookie of the Month for his performance, but they weren't the only ones impressing in Las Vegas.

A few notes:

• Dallas guard Dominique Jones was very impressive. He is very athletic, built really strong and can get to the hoop. He will be a tough defender for the Mavs and could be a key piece off the bench. He seems like a hard worker and I left Vegas thinking very highly of his future.

Landry Fields, a second-round pick by the Knicks, was also a revelation. He seemed to always be on the ball. He wouldn't take over the game, but you'd look up and he'd have double-digits in scoring and you'd see him everywhere on the court. A hard worker like him could be a role player in New York.

Larry Sanders, Milwaukee's pick at No. 15, was fun to watch. I didn't know much about Sanders coming out of VCU, but I'm very high on his potential. He's long, athletic, and can block shots. He will be a nice fit in the Bucks, where he can run the floor and help take some of the weight off Andrew Bogut in the middle.

John Wall :: Washington Wizards

Wall was named Las Vegas' Most Outstanding Player after leading all players in scoring (23.5) and assists (7.8) in four games. Wall lived up to the hype and improved as the week progressed. After struggling with turnovers in the first two games, he had just five in the last two games combined. Thig guy is the real deal and will be fun to watch this sesason.

DeMarcus Cousins :: Sacramento Kings

After being named T-Mobile Rookie of the Month, Cousins had a terrible outing in his finale. Cousins had six points and six rebounds and was just 1-for-12 from the floor with five turnovers. Despite the shaky ending, Cousins was a beast in Vegas and looks like a real threat in the Rookie of the Year race.

Derrick Caracter :: Los Angeles Lakers

Caracter finished off his impressive Summer League with 10 points and six rebounds in the Lakers' 80-71 loss to the Spurs. L.A. finished 0-5 in Las Vegas, but Caracter may have earned a long look from the Lakers' brass with his size, aggressiveness and array of low-post moves.

Dominique Jones :: Dallas Mavericks

Jones was one of the biggest revelations, and he was named to the All-Tournament team after a very impressive Summer League. He was aggressive, got to the hoop and proved to be a great defender. In his matchup with John Wall, Jones held the top pick to 4-for-19 shooting.

Greg Monroe :: Detroit Pistons

The No. 7 pick got better and better in each of the Pistons' five games in Las Vegas. In the finale, Monroe had 27 points and 14 rebounds and was more aggressive, showing off an array of moves. He finished with averages of 14.6 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting 52 percent from the floor.

Larry Sanders :: Milwaukee Bucks

Sanders was one of my favorite players in Las Vegas. He has length, athleticism, and a surprising ofensive game. Sanders averaged 14.0 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.2 blocks in the Bucks' five games. Sanders has showed off a versatility that could earn him playing time come the regular season, especially if he continues to defend like he is. "He's an exciting young prospect," Bucks assistant Kelvin Sampson said. "His best days are ahead of him. I'm really, really excited about Larry."

Landry Fields :: New York Knicks

Fields finished up his run in Las Vegas with his fifth double-digit scoring game. He ended with averages of 15.6 points and 4.8 rebounds and was one of the revelations of Summer League. I leave Vegas impressed by Fields' nose for the ball. His ability to do the dirty work could earn the second-round pick out of Stanford playing time in New York.

Gani Lawal :: Phoenix Suns

Lawal, the Suns' 46th pick, capped off a very productive Summer League with 14 points with 10 rebounds for his second double-double. Lawal might have a hard time cracking the lineup this season, but he's got the size and effort to make an impact off the bench.

9
Ed Davis :: Toronto Raptors

Davis quietly had a decent five-game run in Vegas. In the Raptors' finaled, Davis had 14 points and six rebounds in just 18 minutes. Davis scored in double-digits in four of the five games and finished with averages of 12.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks. He won't be Chris Bosh, but the No. 13 pick could be a big contributor off the bench.

10
Quincy Pondexter :: New Orleans Hornets
thumb

Quincy Pondexter saved his best for last. The guard out of UW scored 26 points in Saturday in the Hornets' finale. In five games, Pondexter averaged 15.2 points in Las Vegas and got better as the week progressed. "Quincy's a guy who plays with passion," Hornets coach Mondty Williams. "He defended John Wall better than anyone I saw this week."
